A tracker is only as good as the network of phones around it. That makes your phone’s platform the first decision, not the tracker’s design. This guide picks between three trackers that each lean on a different network.

Apple AirTag (2nd generation)
Apple lists expanded Precision Finding (step-by-step directions now on Apple Watch too), a 50% louder speaker, upgraded Ultra Wideband and Bluetooth chips for longer range, and — for luggage specifically — the ability to share an AirTag’s location with over 50 airline partners. Pick it if you’re on iPhone. Skip it on Android.
JioTag (2nd generation)
Jio’s pitch is flexibility: it pairs with Android via Google Find Hub or with iOS via Apple Find My, though only one network at a time — switching means removing it, resetting and re-pairing. It lists a 120 dB speaker and IP64 rating. Pick it for Android users or a household that might switch phones.
Tile Mate
Tile lists 105 m Bluetooth range, up to three-year battery, IP68 water resistance, a discreet SOS alert, and a button to ring your phone even when silenced. It lives in the Life360 app. Pick it if your family already uses Life360. Skip it if you want the crowd-finding scale of Apple’s or Google’s networks — Tile’s listing focuses on Bluetooth range.
What the listings don’t tell you
- Trackers aren’t GPS. They report location when a nearby phone on their network passes by.
- Bag placement. Put the tracker inside, not on an external tag that can be torn off.
- Anti-stalking alerts on both major networks may notify people travelling with your bag. That’s by design.
Bottom line
iPhone: AirTag. Android or mixed: JioTag. Life360 family: Tile Mate.
