The mistake with smart plugs in India is plugging a geyser or AC into a plug rated for a phone charger. Amperage is the first filter, features second. This guide sorts three energy-monitoring plugs by what you can safely put on them.
Quick picks
- Heavy appliances (geyser, AC, microwave), sold in India and the UK: TP-Link Tapo P110 16AAd (UK)
- Heavy appliances, Wipro app ecosystem: Wipro 16A smart plugAd

Tapo P110
TP-Link lists remote on/off, schedules, countdown timers, real-time power and energy-spend monitoring, and voice control through Alexa or Google Assistant. It’s the only one here I could match on both Amazon.in and Amazon.co.uk — note the UK version is a UK plug, so buy from the store for your sockets.
Pick this if you want schedules, countdown timers and an energy-spend readout in one app. Skip if you’re already all-in on the Wipro app.
Wipro 16A and 10A
Wipro’s listings are short: polycarbonate body, one-year warranty, app control from anywhere, energy monitoring, Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, and clear guidance on which appliances suit which rating. The 10A page names TVs, kettles, table fans, set-top boxes and air purifiers; the 16A page names ACs, geysers and microwaves.
Pick these if you want separate plugs sized per appliance from one brand. Skip if you need UK availability.
What the listings don’t tell you
- Socket shape. Indian 16 A sockets are larger than 6 A ones; confirm the plug fits your wall socket.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Many smart plugs only join 2.4 GHz networks — check the live page and your router.
- Don’t automate heaters blindly. Schedules on geysers are fine; remote switching of anything that can overheat deserves care.
Bottom line
Match amps first. For heavy loads with schedules and timers, Tapo P110; for a Wipro household, pair the 16A for big appliances and the 10A for everything else.
